In my mind, Mrs. Beasley stands alongside other great blessings like Fred Rogers - except of course, she was a short trip to the library away. Her open heart and ear made an incredible impression on me as a child. She was always eager to hear whatever new thing had caught my attention, and oftentimes had something interesting to share with me as well - she encouraged and nurtured my curiosity. Even as a child, it was obvious that she treated me no different than she would any other person - something I was incredibly grateful for, as I was terribly isolated throughout my childhood at school. Those conversations were a reassurance that I was worth something as a person, at a point in my life where it was hard to believe in myself.
As I got older, few things in life felt better than popping down for a surprise visit, and seeing her face beam with joy, pride, and love. It was always a pleasure to catch up with her.
Thank you Mrs. Beasley, for all you did for me and countless others. Your kindness lives on through us.

I am so incredibly saddened to think that such a wry, witty, loving, creative, funny person is no longer with us! Please know that she impacted an amazing number of people during her short life. She is part of the fabric of our Blue Island (and Calumet Park) and she will be deeply and sorely missed.

AS a local school librarian, Deb saved my bacon many times! She was always willing to brainstorm an idea or order a book to support my lessons. She was equally invested in finding the best books for my two sons. I will miss her sense of humor and joyful curiosity. Godspeed, Deb.

What a force: what a tremendous loss. Many librarians build good collections, but she was unparalleled in the ferocity of her advocacy for children. I marveled at her in action. Children walked away knowing that she was not a librarian, but rather THEIR librarian. In 2007, I had requested her help introducing my Harvey after-school kids to the world of reciprocal borrowing. She was not merely helpful, warm and welcoming: she dazzled our kids and became THEIR librarian. She also dazzled our Spanish-speaking parents, with her travels to the Guadalajara Book Fair. That was Deb: she simply refused to accept the paucity of Spanish-language books for kids. I miss the world that had her in it. Julie Martin, Restoration Ministries

My sincere condolences to Stan, Margaret and the entire family. I remember fondly the time we worked side by side in the Children’s Department of the Blue Island Library. Deb was kind yet stern, and always willing to help. She was loved and respected by all, and she will be greatly missed.

I will never forget the 20 years we worked together at the Blue Island Library. You were always so kind to me and such fun. My grandchildren loved coming to your storytime. Now they are all 30 yrs old but they will never forget Mrs. Beasley. Thanks for the memories. May you now enjoy being with your Saviour. Sure will be missed...love you ❣️

40 years ago, while working at the Blue Island Public Library, several years before I decided that librarianship would be my career, I met a young former bookseller who had just taken a position in the children’s services department. Her name was Deborah Beasley. We became friends.
I watched her children grow. I placed a hand on her eldest son’s shoulder at his Confirmation.
Our paths diverged and crossed for many years. We did not see each other for long periods of time, but my heart always held her.

Mrs. Beasley as I always called her was great friends with my mother. I grew up at the Blue Island Public Library from 1989 to 1999 when my mother left the Library. I remember the staff picnics, one that was at my house years ago. I remember my mother inviting Margaret to come on vacations with us. I still have the photos of when we went to St. Louis. We got stranded in Troy, IL when the clutch went out on our van. My mom called Deb to let her know what happened. She offered to stay up and wait for us. She was a very caring and wonderful person. She even asked my husband to take care if me when my mother passed. I know they are both up there reunited laughing and enjoying see each other once again. Stan and Margaret, take care of each other. It's a hard and long road, but you two got this.

Your Mom was a character in the book of our lives. She had a wealth of titles as well as authors stored in her brain for any youngster needing any information for a research project or just to help a child find a new reading avenue. My own children benefitted from her wisdom,as well as my Kindergarten classes over the last 25 years. Mrs. Beasley brought stories to life! Godspeed Deb. We love you.
