Obituary of Maria R. Barrozo

Maria R. Barrozo nee Damian, lifelong resident of Blue Island, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus, January 29, 2024 at the age of ninety-five.

Maria was the beloved wife of the late Ramon Barrozo, who passed away September 11, 1986. She is the cherished mother of Evangelina “Eva” Barrozo and Maria Estela Barrozo. Maria was one of nine children born to the late Eduardo Damian and the late Maria nee Mejia.

Maria was born March 16, 1928 in Zacapu, Michoacan, Mexico. She was a member of both St. Benedict Church and St. Walter Church, now known as St. Mary Magdalene Parish. Maria was not only devoted to her faith, she lived it every day, showing grace, kindness and caring to everyone she met.

Maria was employed by St. Francis hospital for thirty years. She had an immense work ethic and gained many lasting friendships, especially with the nuns. Maria lived every moment of her life to the fullest, she found great joy in preparing meals, tending to her garden and canning tomatoes. Her talents continued in the beautiful handmade needlepoint projects she designed and also the knitting and crocheting of delicate pillowcases and bedspreads.

Visitation for Maria will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Chapel prayers will begin Thursday at 9:15 am at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 S. Greenwood Ave., Blue Island, then to St. Walter Church, 117th St. and Western Avenue, Chicago for mass at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip.
