Obituary of Gerald F. Liebold

Gerald "Jerry" Liebold, 64, of Blue Island, formerly of Roseland, beloved son of the late Gerald and Alice nee Sluszarcyk, loving brother of Virginia (Bill) Owens, Victoria (Peter)Prestinario, Henry (Gloria), Veronica Cook, Heidi (Dale) Gobreski and the late Fred (Gloria) Hawker, fond nephew of Mary Wagner and Wally Pavilanis, dear uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend of many, special thanks to Blue Cap Core Association and good friend Dorothy Wiggins. A memorial mass will be celebrated Friday, July 24, 2015, at St. Isidore Church, 1811 W. 127th St., Blue Island, at 11:00 am. Cremation was private. Jerry was born and raised in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago. He attended Edgar Allan Poe Elementary School, Chicago Vocational School and was a 1968 graduate of Fenger High School. Along with his siblings, Jerry enjoyed many of the privileges of growing up in this lively community: picnic lunches at Palmer Park, Giovanni's Pizza, Rainbow Cones, going "up the ave" to Gately's People Store and attending free matinee movies, just to mention a few. He was a Boy Scout and even won a Schwinn bike in a scouting contest. Jerry loved sports and listening to records really loud on his stereo, especially the Monkees, "Last Train To Clarksville". Jerry became very active in the Blue Island/Calumet Park Community. He liked to tell jokes and enjoyed visiting with his friends at Calumet Township Senior Center, he shared many meals and games of chess with his buddies at MetroSouth Medical Center cafeteria. He was an avid Bingo player and supported many of the local churches and organizations who held Bingo games. Jerry leaves many friends in the neighborhood to cherish his memory.
